What does a great online ESL teacher do?

We crave the following characteristics and soft skills from teachers who work here. Here are some questions that could help you before an interview with us:

  • Adaptability: How do you handle new situations? Are you willing to adapt to a more dynamic methodology based on conversation?
  • Charisma: Are you able to incorporate humor at appropriate times of the class? How does your energy affect the class? How can you transform a quiet student into an open one?
  • Conversationalist: How can you extend a conversation naturally? At the same time, how do you avoid high teacher talking time?
  • Communication: Are you able to break down complex grammar points into understandable segments? How important is it to communicate with other teachers, your mentor, and your supervisor?
  • Patience: How do you handle frustration? How do you navigate a class where a student is learning new information?
  • Empathy: What does learning another language mean to you? How can you relate to your students in a positive way? How do you process mistakes?
  • Cultural awareness: We stress this value at Craving since we are a global company. How do you view different cultures? How do you build bridges with other cultures?
  • Positive attitude: How do you keep the class atmosphere fun and light? What are ways to make students feel comfortable?
  • Time management: How do you balance teacher talking time and student talking time? How do you complete educational materials on time?
  • Tech-savviness: Currently, we use Zoom to give classes to students. Are you able to use online tools with ease? How do you feel about working remotely?
  • Teamwork: How are you able to contribute to a team of dedicated individuals? How can you take what you learn from others into the classroom?

If you can prove these skills during the interview or trial lesson, you will find success here.
